Your speculation here is faulty. NATO is a defensive alliance. The expansion of NATO in Russia eyes means less countries for them to invade later. It means, in Russian eyes, they have less room to be aggressive. you are confusing an aggressive posture for a defensive one, making it a misinterpretation and therefore not reliable for any predictive power.
