Love the article, thank you for putting it so clearly. However, I found some “further” assumptions that were stated in the quote about the three ideas about mind. Yes there are three, but no not in the groupings he stated.
One view of mind is that it is emergent from matter/brain/body. That it could have a soul or spirit afterwards is simply speculation and not relevant to the view.
That’s physicalism. Another view is the opposite, that matter/brain/body emerges from the mind. That’s called idealism in the west, but it’s called “non-dualism” in the east.
Both idealism or physicalism share that mind and matter is one substance, not two.
The third view of mind is “dualism”, that mind and brain are distinct substances.
Everything is spot on! These three views of mind determine the bias with which we will engage the world.
