I’m not sure the skeptical view on the ROI of a publicly funded program would be the deciding view here on SETI. Lack of results? SETI achieves another function in society outside of receiving any radio signals from ET, which is it functions to make us wonder about something more intelligent than us, out there. The results of programs like this improve our own civilization building skills even if we are all alone.
