I’m not sure if Nagels argument meant that we could not have concepts about what it is like to be a bat, it’s that what it is that is like to be a bat, it’s not a concept, but a gestalt.

Like you have dreams, and even though you are in the dream world, you still feel like you are “you” in the dream, even if the dream is incoherent.

That is the gap between hard and soft, the non conceptual experience (sensing, feeling, rubbing, warmth, sex and mating all non conceptual)

Nagels argument could also be put more relatable. Imagine a pre pubescent wondering what it is like to experience sex…no concept about sex could communicate it. That’s the “what is it like to be a bat” problem when it comes to modeling consciousness from a scientific perspective
