I agree that “subjective experience” is a very problematic thing to measure scientifically. For years I thought “experience” itself was the befuddling phenomenon, however now I see that conscious awareness is just one part of the overall problem, with “mind” , both conscious and sub conscious and unconscious, things like intelligence which don’t require any experience whatsoever.

So maybe just limiting it to “conscious experience” is the easy way out of looking at the hard problem not of consciousness, but mind.
