Buddhism was also established in Greece. I am going to speculate wildly a bit, but perhaps lending to your notion here that if one views Buddhism itself as more of a reform movement and university movement (which it was) I speculate that Buddhist orders could have even influenced Christianity within early Jewish mystical cults.
